Ostomy Technology takes another step forward.

ConvaTec moldable skin barrier technology has improved the lives of Ostomates again.  Working with patients this product was designed to meet two needs – create a snug fit to improve the skin protection from irritation and skin issues, create a product which can easily be molded into a customized fit. There is no need for scissors or templates.  The adhesive can be easily rolled back to create a perfect fit for the stoma that day. With no cutting, the new softer adhesive back, the barrier can touch the stoma with no worry about sharp edges cutting through the soft stoma.

Simply hold the flange with both hands using your thumbs to roll back the adhesive, to the desired shape and size.

The moldable adhesive flexes to the fit all varieties of stoma shapes and sizes, from irregular and oval shaped stomas which are harder to fit with the traditional cut-to-fit barriers.

Once applied the elastic properties gently hug the stoma, creating a personalized fit. The wear time is expected to be the same as one is experiencing now. The improved fit does decrease the chance of leakage which does help with breakdown.

Helping to maintain a snug fit the barrier absorbs moisture during wear, gently swelling up the stoma causing it to “turtleneck” around the stoma. As the stoma changes size and shape throughout the day the flexibility of the Moldable technology allows the barrier to expand and contract through out these changes.

There is no longer the need to use pastes or seals along with these barriers.  The adhesive is some what sticky and can stick to gloves, it is best to mold the barrier before putting on your gloves to avoid getting your fingers stuck.

Rods are too long and if you need to use them you will have to stay with your standard system.

ConvaTec Moldable Technology skin barriers are available in both Flat and Convex Barrier systems.
