Online Ostomy Information
When I first got my Ostomy was before the Internet. As the Internet started out it was ath a fairly simple resource. Yet today, It has come a long way and is quite a wealth of information. There are hundreds of Ostomy sites and information. Some are run by nonprofit organizations like the United Ostomy Association of Canada and some are run by individuals with first-hand information. Sifting through all these sites can be daunting as a new Ostomate.
The manufacturers of Ostomy supplies are a great source of information. Not only about their products but also educating patients on a variety of issues related to their Ostomy. Another great website is the Canadian Association of Enterostomal therapy. (http://www.caet.ca) the site provides excellent information on the individual types of Ostomys.
Last year, I found the intestinal disease education and awareness society (IDEAS) website. The site was founded by Ostomate Robert Hill, whom I met at the Calgary Ostomy Canada conference. Not only is Robert and inspiration to all. He created this society to help sort out the good information from the not so good information on the Web. His IDEAS site is not specifically for Ostomies, but includes intestinal disease which is a nice fit.
Rob Hills IDEAS website, I promote for his intentions are coming from the right place as well as his site has good solid information and is organized in a easy to find layout. There are many links to other sites as well as a wealth of information in PDF's.
If you're looking for information about provincial or territorial health care benefit programs, this is the site to see. Health care in Canada is the provincial jurisdiction, which means the provinces choose how and if two provider reimbursement program for citizens with very little input from the government of Canada. Because of the variation in size of provincial economies in the different philosophies of the original governments, the levels of reimbursements are not equal to all Canadians regardless of where they live.
There is a nice break down of each province as well as some info for USA Ostomates.
So check out this great website http://www.ideas-na.com
