Ostomy Tech­nol­ogy takes another step forward.

Con­va­Tec mold­able skin bar­rier tech­nol­ogy has improved the lives of Osto­m­ates again. Work­ing with patients this prod­uct was designed to meet two needs – cre­ate a snug fit to improve the skin pro­tec­tion from irri­ta­tion and skin issues, cre­ate a prod­uct which can eas­ily be molded into a cus­tomized fit. There is no need for scis­sors or tem­plates. The adhe­sive can be eas­ily rolled back to cre­ate a per­fect fit for the stoma that day. With no cut­ting, the new softer adhe­sive back, the bar­rier can touch the stoma with no worry about sharp edges cut­ting through the soft stoma.

Sim­ply hold the flange with both hands using your thumbs to roll back the adhe­sive, to the desired shape and size.

The mold­able adhe­sive flexes to the fit all vari­eties of stoma shapes and sizes, from irreg­u­lar and oval shaped stomas which are harder to fit with the tra­di­tional cut-to-fit barriers.

Once applied the elas­tic prop­er­ties gen­tly hug the stoma, cre­at­ing a per­son­al­ized fit. The wear time is expected to be the same as one is expe­ri­enc­ing now. The improved fit does decrease the chance of leak­age which does help with breakdown.

Help­ing to main­tain a snug fit the bar­rier absorbs mois­ture dur­ing wear, gen­tly swelling up the stoma caus­ing it to “turtle­neck” around the stoma. As the stoma changes size and shape through­out the day the flex­i­bil­ity of the Mold­able tech­nol­ogy allows the bar­rier to expand and con­tract through out these changes.

There is no longer the need to use pastes or seals along with these bar­ri­ers. The adhe­sive is some what sticky and can stick to gloves, it is best to mold the bar­rier before putting on your gloves to avoid get­ting your fin­gers stuck.

Rods are too long and if you need to use them you will have to stay with your stan­dard system.

Con­va­Tec Mold­able Tech­nol­ogy skin bar­ri­ers are avail­able in both Flat and Con­vex Bar­rier systems.
